Things to Do

Situated on the former estate of Arthur and Ninah Cummer, The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens stands as a monument to the arts, gardens, and education. Acknowledged as the Best Museum in Jacksonville, this institution's legacy is woven into the very fabric of the city's cultural landscape. Officially opening its doors on November 10, 1961, the museum has evolved from its humble beginnings, which featured Ninah Cummer's modest collection of sixty pieces. Today, the museum boasts an extensive permanent collection that encompasses over six thousand works of art, spanning an impressive eight thousand years of art history. This growth reflects the institution's mission to engage and inspire individuals through multiple artistic mediums.

The Cummer Museum serves not just as a repository of art but as a living testament to the Cummer family's enduring passion for art and culture. It offers a sanctuary for artistic exploration and appreciation, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to delve into various forms of artistic expression. The museum's collection is as diverse as it is extensive, featuring art from different periods and cultures, thereby allowing guests to immerse themselves in a rich tapestry of human creativity.

Beyond its walls filled with art, the museum also features stunning gardens and a strong commitment to educational programs. These additional facets aim to deepen the connection between individuals and the arts, fostering a sense of community and leaving a lasting impact. Whether it's through its art collections, beautiful gardens, or educational initiatives, The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens succeeds in creating a multidimensional experience that enriches the lives of those it serves.

It was beautiful here. We had a good time. It was free Friday between 4 and 9. We enjoyed the outside before it got dark then went inside to enjoy the art.

Beautiful galleries and gardens, much more than expected! Spent a little over 2 hours here; the art collection is noteworthy with some pieces from ancient Egypt and the gardens are cool!
